LAVA CHAIRSIDE ORAL SCANNER

In keeping with Dr Schroder’s desire to stay abreast of the latest technological advances in the practice of dentistry, we are pleased to inform all of our current and prospective patients of the addition of the Lava Chairside Oral Scanner to our office. In order to create crowns or bridges, we used to take an impression of the teeth that were prepared. A thick, viscous material was squirted around the tooth and allowed to set up. This process took at least 5 minutes and caused many patients to choke and gag. After the impression was removed from the mouth there were many steps involved in the fabrication of the restoration which could incorporate distortion into the final product. Success was not necessarily assured.

Things have definitely changed! Ours is the first office in the southern United States to incorporate the LAVA Chairside Oral Scanner into everyday practice. A very compact wand is placed into the mouth to scan the teeth prepared for crowns and bridges. The device is an intraoral computerized scanner that eliminates ALL of the impression material, ALL of the steps that can result in distortion and uses digital data for construction of extremely precise fitting restorations. To date we have completed over 400 restorations and have had excellent results in EVERY case. That’s right, 100% success rates with truly unparalleled accuracy. ALL of our patients have favorable things to say about the new procedures.

Because of his expertise in incorporation of the scanner into his practice, Dr. Schroder has been asked by 3M (the manufacturer of the scanner) to be a part of a speaker’s bureau to teach other dentists across the United States the technique. One of our cases is featured on the LAVACOS website. He has also authored an article in Dentistry Today, a publication distributed to 150,000 dental professionals worldwide, which demonstrates the scanner’s accuracy. We truly believe that the use of computers has finally found its’ way into restorative dentistry and will change our profession forever.
